What really matters

Praise for accomplishment only fills for brief moments
like the sun shining through a drop of water, bejeweled until it dries
After the applause—the silence
It roars in my ears and could carry me away.
Like a hot air balloon, it’s brilliant at first sight, but fades and wears through time.

My private partnership makes all the difference.
My hand in His—my complete confidence in Him
And His quiet word is what edifies, fills me full
until my cup overflows
Even in failure, if He thinks I can
            I have courage to try

If I believe in me—it is never enough
If I believe in Him and HIS belief in me
I can do anything!

Pondering and accepting HIS will, no matter what
Causes a change in me—like Jack*—my hold is tenuous
I ask Him to hold on to me
My grasp is tiny, like a child, I hold His finger
I stumble often, I despair, I am afraid!
I think of Him, His promises to me and my chin lifts a little
I find faith

* "Jack" is C.S. Lewis
