New poetry

singular circumstance sharpened by memory
nicks
a small peace of me

declarations made, disowned
scraped dry, peeling and disused
leaving a peace for me

turn your back
on the berries that never ripen
water is cold, but not sweet
no stiletto pierces hope
and peace astonishes

========================================

forget-me-nots
in the planter
an aged cat beneath
arthritic limbs cause the hobble
            distorted and leaning

hiss of spring
claws of snow
yowls in gales
belying the almanac and achy bone

pellets flick against the panes
            and heated bed
where the aged cat curls with back to the chill
her paws folded inward

================================================

the slick wet dew in un-mowed lawn
an owlet stretches outsized wings
            that quiver in awkward first flights
An orb grows pale, disappears
            and stars lose their mystery
the horizon opens

Quail and pheasant
strut in the June grass
            feathers shine and ruffle

day's heat
accumulate on the asphalt
dust and stones
sticky, coating, to dress the sidelines

a limp blown bag
recycled by the wind
congregates with the others on the fence barb
a nasty pileup amid the oily ditch

========================================================

reason me this

man strolls into a marketplace
            looking for a human bean
peruses the cases
of self-importance
aisles of judgement and condemnation
the eager dismissal of his quest
            his basket unfilled

simpleton
            or holy man?

where will he shop next?
